A look at the artist

Annie Sène is the product of a cultural mix of Senegal, France, and Guadeloupe. Driven by the love of her family, she is a passionate self-taught woman who grows through her experiences and continuous learning. Her driving force: the pursuit of her dreams and the constant exploration of new skills.

Artistic Approach

First Steps & Techniques

Annie explores a variety of mediums: black pencil, charcoal, and pastel. These tools allow her to better understand space, shapes, light, shadows, and colors. She is passionate about the complexity of human nature and the diversity it emanates.

Evolution of his Style

  • Debut in portraiture: softness and femininity in black pencil and charcoal.

  • Oil painting: first work in 1992, a notable foray with a painting representing an African top model who became an activist.

  • Themes explored: identity, femininity, intimacy, innocence.

  • Significant canvas: Metamorphosis, a turn towards the semi-abstract and hidden symbols.

  • 1992: First oil painting in Enghien-les-Bains.

  • 2002: Participation in workshops and exhibitions with the Quatre-A association in Cergy-le-Haut.

  • 2010: Works exhibited at the Galerie Garo Charles, Montreal.

  • 2012: First solo exhibition at the Portuguese.

  • Regular exhibitions, notably at the Lamoureux Ritzenhoff Gallery.

  • 2015: Winner of the Rallye-Expos Vues d’Afrique with La Source Sauve.

  • 2020: Finalist for the ArtxTerra Artist Entrepreneur Award.
